If you pay online with a credit card there is a 2.75% fee for each transaction. Please include payment of that fee at time of transaction. Fees not paid up front are added to your account fees.
Remember accounts with outstanding fees will be charged additional fees. Payments made late are charged a late payment fee. That fee is now $15.
Online payments made via your savings or checking accounts carry no additional fees at time of transaction. (Hooray, some good news.)
Sorry for the many reminders, some of our families are finding it challenging to navigate this system. We'll get there together! Call me if you have additional questions.
This article was featured today on MSN. It echos what you have been hearing from me for the last two years as we set out to find out what is really in the food we buy and revamp our menus to weed out the processed, high salt, corn syrup laden foods that are often promoted as "kid friendly."
Michele, Natalea and I have been meeting with food reps locally to sample their more natural products and do a cost comparison so that we can take the next steps in this process. We have eliminated the pre-fried options, going whole wheat and more "whole" food this year, next we take aim at mechanically processed meats, meat "glue," and "pink slime" added to meats. (Don't ask what those are unless you really want to know.) Just trust me you don't want to eat that stuff but know unless you eat 100% certified organic meat-you have been.
McDonald's and another chain recently took a big step in stating that they will no longer accept meat treated with amonia. Now if they'll just use real chicken...

We have more missing coats.
Parents, please put your child's name into the coat so that when parents accidentally pick up the wrong coat they will know to get it back.
CURRENTLY MISSING:
Dressy coat, black and white with polka dots.
Minnie mouse coat in pink.
Please return ASAP-it's awful weather for a little guy to head out without a coat on.
One of our parents has suffered a stroke within the last week. Bill Thomas, who some of you may know is the bass player for Big Smith, had a stroke while at a performance site out of state. He is in the hospital and is making great progress. With any extended hospitalization, especially ones where Intensive Care is involved, even the well insured have a mountain of expenses to weed through afterward and with a stroke, there will be some ongoing therapy.
The family needs our love, support and prayers. His wife's name is Carrie and they have two children, so please take time to pray for this lovely family.
Big Smith has set up an account if anyone is moved to help with the extra medical expenses not being covered by their insurance.
Below is the information the band has posted on their Face Book page. You can follow his progress there.
"An update on Bill Thomas:
... we have set up a fund to help with Bill and Carrie's upcoming financial challenges. They have insurance, but as you are all aware there will be many additional expenses. And of course Bill has concerns about when he'll be able to resume playing music for a living. Here is how you can contribute.
Electronically:
Make a donation to Big Smith's PayPal account. Go to www.bigsmithband.com and find the "donate" button for the Cousin Bill fund. Or, go to www.paypal.com and follow the steps to make a payment to cousins@bigsmithband.com. All transactions that go through our PayPal account will go to Bill's fund.
Via the mail:
Make your check or money order out to "Big Smith" and include "Cousin Bill" on the memo line and mail it to:
Cousin Bill donation fund"

The lost hat was also found.
We do still have a lost pink blanket that a little girl really would like returned to her. Please check and see if you have one that isn't yours. It has been missing for quite a while.
Today we had a visitor from Little Spanish Playhouse. Miss Mary did some counting and conversational Spanish with the classes. We wish we could have more authentic language experiences so that children could be immersed in the language and actually learn to speak it.
Reminder,
It is Friday. Tuition was due today. If you haven't left a check today please go online to www.schweitzerumc.org and set up your online account today.

WE DID IT! Everyone got on board and did a great job of tidying up their tuition accounts so we ended the year on solid ground. Thank you for being the wonderful, responsible parents that you are. Even with very careful spending it has been a scary time during this recession to try to keep healthy fiscally, being. non-profit. God is good! He helped us through the bumps.
