Telephone Issues

We have been experiencing problems with the phone system at the church. If you cannot reach anyone, feel free to call my cell phone. It is always on as a backup phone for us and calls are forwarded to my cell whenever there isn't someone physically on duty in the office.

My number is 576-0698.

Watch your mailbox for a reminder post card (the real one-at your house). Won't it be novel to get actual mail?

There were some scheduling hurdles, but we have set Open House dates for August. Morning classes will have Open House at 6:30 PM on Monday, August 15th. We encourage you to bring your children with you for Stretch N Grow fun while we have our parent orientation meeting.

Full time families will come for Open House on Tuesday the 23rd, just two days before the new year begins. It will begin at 6:30 as well.

Attendance is important as there will be some new paperwork to finalize and we will be explaining the plan for moving into the new rooms as they are completed. Entry into the building and how that will be accomplish will shift and change with the construction and we want to try to fill everyone in on upcoming changes.

Please call me at 881-6800, ext. 217 for any questions you might have.

Oh, To Be a Child

Children are the true connoisseurs. What's precious to them has no price -- only value.

Isn't it a joy to watch a child devour something...an idea, a book, an activity. As they enjoy something you can see it on every inch of their face-sometimes their whole body. We could take a tip from them. We rush through everything -on to the next thing. Stop and savor your day. My guess is that you'll learn more and maybe feel increasing contentment. Thank God for each experience.

Fortuitous misfortune...happy accident...serendipity...God winks, call it what you will, sometimes it's good to be in the right place at the right time. I had to drop my daughter off downtown, so we enjoyed a quick midweek lunch at the Gastropub (it was fish taco Tuesday!) oh darn. As we were preparing to leave a former GTK student's dad was unloading fresh, Amish, organic, local produce for the restaurant. We visited for a minute and now I hopefully have yet another contact for organic food sources to serve in our food program. Driving back I cut down Bennett to see if I could locate the newest addition to locally grown food markets. Lo and behold Mr. Ruell Chappell himself was standing out front, so I got a quick tour of the Well Fed Neighbor store.

I'm so excited that our community is on the ball with growing, promoting, and eating locally grown food. My mouth has been quite happy with recent trips to the veggie stand in the parking lot of the AG church in Nixa, Homegrown Foods and grandpa's garden. Fresh herbs of my own to top everything off and I am in taste bud heaven.

ANOTHER example of great local fare is in the arts.

Kids Flix at the Moxie for children 3 and up is totally free July 22 at 10AM. At 10:30 Party Mix for children 7 and up begins in the other theater. Admission is completely free for everyone, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Saturday July 23rd Kids Flix is at 11 AM and Party Mix at 11:30. Check it out.

M & Ms is a fun learning group for young children held during the summer here at Schweitzer. Usually filled to capacity from the beginning of the summer on, they find that they have a few open spots for tomorrow's Pre-K and Kindergarten session. Check the children's ministry tab at www.schweitzerumc.org for details. They would love to see you tomorrow.

Next week is VBS and all of the children enrolled for summer classes at Grow To Know will be participating in bible school.

If your child is not here for the summer you are still more than welcome to be here for VBS.

The dates are listed for the VBS special events but not the times.
Those are now available:

VBS will be each day 9-11:45. Please arrive before 9:00 so the classes will be all together to go to the opening session.

Thursday night will be the parent's program at 7:00 PM

Sunday morning children may come to sing in the 11:00 service.
