SUMMER TIME

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Wow, looks like the heat is here.

Things you need to know for summer:

Academic classes-Mrs. Tammy and Mrs. Amy are planning events for your students Thursday and Friday.

Check with them for information about dates and times for end of the year parties for Tues/Thurs kids and M/W/F kids. Please let us know if your child is not going to be here these last days this week so we can send all of your child's belongings home with you in time.

Be sure that we have your re-enrollment page if you are coming back in the fall.

Bible School and M&Ms is a great way to keep your child connected and engaged over the summer. Tammy and Amy sent out forms for these events. M&Ms fills up very fast and a limited number are accepted so sign up today. Bible school will have both night and daytime options.

Academic children can also request drop in days in full time rooms this summer providing space is available. Call ahead. The cost per day is $35 and summer session officially begins June 6th.

Fall session is slated to start August 25th (first day of Springfield schools).

There will not be Stretch N Grow next week as it is the fifth week of the month and there is a holiday on a major Stretch N Grow day.

You did not have a payment coupon in your book for May but we did complete four full weeks of Stretch N Grow in the month. Most of you have paid for the month but if you haven't you may attach it to your next tuition check or pay it separately if this is your last week before being out for the summer.

SUMMER Stretch N Grow will start June 6 and will be only one time per week and will cost $11.00

Please remember to watch for the drop off line for morning classes if you arrive between 8:45 and 9:10 or around 11:30. It is dangerous to walk through those moving cars. If you are driving be aware of the car line and try to avoid driving through that area.

Schweitzer United Methodist Church
How you can help:

Our second group is heading out tomorrow morning at 8am to help cook and deliver food for workers in the area. They'll need LOTS of bottled water to hand out. If you have the means to donate some, please bring them by the church this afternoon.

Keep praying!

Also, donations can be made through UMCOR at the church office. United Methodist are in place in Joplin to coordinate relief efforts and our team is working with UMCOR.

Everything in a different place than what you are used to?

Sorry for the sudden change. The weather shifted and we jumped into our temporary quarters as soon as they opened up so we could have some air conditioning on these oddly hot days. We are settled for now until the remodeling is done on our old rooms.

We have so many new requests for summer care that we are going to keep a second classroom open for older kids with our Academic lead teacher Mrs. Amy at the wheel! We are enjoying an increase in enrollment that I hope means an upswing in the local economy.

Know any fantastic public school or Head Start teachers that need a few work hours this summer? We are in need of substitute teachers.

Seed Store

My office looks like the garden department of the hardware store.

Our grant for seeds was fulfilled and I have hundreds of packets of seeds. Sadly there are less organic seeds this year, though I did get a few interesting heirloom packages.

IF I get them all done I will have Late Earth Day gifts for each family tomorrow or the next day. You will be able to choose from several types, climbers and ramblers (includes pumpkin, squash, melon), window sill (lettuces and herbs), standard, and unusual (fennel or parsnips) anyone. Anyone who is a serious gardener can ask for more.

Right now the kids are choosing what they want to put into our garden.

Any of you with gardening skills please let me know if you can volunteer to work in the garden. Also check with your classroom teacher to see when you can help the class do so as well. We may have some great window gardens too since we all have great shelving right in front of our windows in our temporary rooms.

We are excited the kids will be able to grow and eat some veggies right here at school.
