Ephesians 4
1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
It can be hard to live in this world and rise above the anger and pettiness all around us. My pet peeve of the last two days has been people tailgating me. I'm not known for driving slowly unfortunately and it has been more than a bit terrifying on a couple of occasions. Frustrations with being unable to move out of their way led me to mutter less than kind things that I am glad they couldn't hear. I really needed to read the passage above this morning and make allowance for other's faults. Living together is messy-at work, at home, in the community and especially in traffic.
See what you can do with this one today. It sure stepped on my toes.
Don't forget the Community Wide Play Day has been rescheduled for this Saturday. Come early to beat the heat.
I could still use some extra hands for face painting! Come and help me out!
Summer is in full swing. One of the best events of the year will happen the last week of July. Vacation Bible School is always a highlight of the summer. All kids enrolled and present that week will participate in VBS. There is an additional charge for this (like a field trip would have). The fee needs to be paid to the church rather than to the preschool. Make checks payable to SUMC. Please get your forms in so that the leadership of VBS will have time to prepare for all who are attending (order T-shirts, craft supplies etc.)
If your child attends part time you may still come to all VBS sessions with your GTK class. There is no additional preschool tuition unless you stay extra hours beyond the VBS classes.
Teal room members who are still two will have VBS in their classroom. Those who are three will join the regular VBS classes.
VBS ends on Thursday, but the Grow To Know classes will use the 5th day of VBS materials in their classroom on Friday of that week.
The church will host a program and usually the children sing on the following Sunday morning. We will pass on the details of those two events or any changes to the formula as we get that information.
If that is a week that your child will be on vacation please let your teacher know so we don't continue to hound you to turn in your VBS registration.
Invite friends.
The higher cost of organic food over regular is a deterent to healthier eating. It would be fabulous to have organic menus for the kids here at Grow To Know. As we try to find more natural and fresh options to replace the "regular" food with in our menu I will try to pass these tips on to you.
We will be adding in local produce as we can get our hands on it. Have a garden, anyone???
The last two times I have run over to Dillons to get a quick deli meal before a night meeting I have discovered something shocking. The organic blue corn chips were cheaper than the name brand!
This last time I bought Clearly Organic brand for more than a dollar cheaper for the same sized bag. It's worth comparison shopping.
Occasionally I will grab an Amy's Indian frozen dinner from the organic section. At three to five dollars they are as inexpensive as a meal deal from a drive through lane. Smaller portions and higher nutritional value mean that I get just enough to fill me up and it sticks with me longer, I don't get an unwanted load of fat and chemicals and maybe just maybe I will go down a dress size soon. Another perk is that I don't feel sick after I eat like when I succumb to a deep fried pile of other stuff.
Eating at one of the three natural restaurants that I know of or the deli of Mama Jeans costs about the same as eating out anywhere, so now my meals out are organic-unless I'm not the one picking the eatery. My family ate out at only organic places from "black Friday" until Easter. Fish n Chips at Farmer's Gastropub is $7.99 for a single order. I can split it with my daughter unless we are really hungry and opt for the $13 double order. I can't finish a double alone and I'm a pretty big eater. Soups there are very inexpensive there and they have summer cold soups! Chipotle makes an effort as a chain to buy fresh and local-ask them where their food comes from. Toss Across and Tea Bar and Bites go for the fresh and Local also. Tea Bar is less kid oriented but great for lunch or Friday date night!
I'm hoping to get a comprehensive listing via Moms for Local Food or Well Fed Neighbor Alliance soon.
I really want to hear ideas from all of you of things to add to the menu that are cost effective but more nutritional. Please reply here or email me.
