June 2009 Archives
The church must close July 3rd so that all full time paid staff can receive a holiday off.
Grow To Know will be closed. There are teachers on our staff who might be able to provide emergency child care if this is a day that you do not get off work. Please feel free to ask around. You may also post a note in your child's classroom to arrange a play day with other classmates to cover your child care needs if you wish.

Alex Crowder from KSMU came out yesterday and photographed still shots for a slide show to go with an article on potty training.
The expert advice in the article is from former student Addison Harris' mom.
Check it out.
It should be our ultimate goal to live lives that add to those around us. Let me give you two examples: one just beginning-one just ended.
Leah Wreath was one of our early preschool aides way back when we first began Grow To Know. She loved the children she helped with in the two and three year old classes. Every year she returned to help with VBS and would always bring me stories of the children she had in her class that she still kept up with or would run into. She babysat for many of her students and other Schweitzer kiddos. She always had time to help non profit groups as a volunteer and helped elderly and disabled neighbors non-stop. Leah left us for her permanent heavenly home last week but she is one who lived beautifully for others.
On a happier note, the next generation of children who are learning to give of themselves have someone among their ranks that they can admire and strive to be like. Candace, a former GTK student, has made a donation to the scholarship fund. She received donations from others when she put out toys she had outgrown with a note that they were free but if anyone wished to make a donation the money would go for preschool scholarships. What a great example. It is a timely gift, as scholarship money is going out as fast or faster than it is being donated right now.
Coach Kim will be teaching Stretch N Grow on Tuesday afternoon each week for the Pre-K and K group (Green Room).
Coach Melissa will teach Teal and Purple Rooms and the Yellow Room groups on Thursday mornings.
The cost will be half of the school year fees since we are doing one time per week for the summer instead of two, so $11.00. You may add the activity fee to your regular tuition check or you may pay it in a separate check, but be sure to make it payable to Grow To Know.
Seussapalooza is the June theme
Let the silliness and mayhem ensue! In addition to the obvious benefit of fun and creative thought; literature, rhyming, creative art, and collaboration are skills that will come easily in this unit. Seuss' outside-of-the-box world fosters higher order thinking skills in children. Moral lessons such as loving all people are taught so eloquently in Horton Hears a Who. Logical consequences and being responsible are good discussion options for a group time after reading The Cat in the Hat. Children feel empowered when they see a tiny main character standing strong in a crisis as happens in many Seuss stories.
June should be a very exciting month as we explore this zany place. Below are some Seuss websites if you want to explore further at home.

And lest we forget... "a person's a person no matter how small."*
